DJI Matrice 30 (M30)

With a 16xoptical zoom camera, thermal camera, wide camera, and laser range finder the M30 is the new standard for hybrid payload. It has 6 directional sensing and positioning offering protection and ensuring safe flights. A new generation of quad-antenna image transmission ensures signal stability in complex environments. Its 200xhybrid zoom camera enables you to not only zoom from afar but capture the precise shots you need. The high-resolution thermal camera efficiently reveals heat sources. Even in darkness the M30’s low-light FPV camera will show your surrounding and will not inhibit night flights. The smart low-light photo captures clear pictures. Hot-swappable batteries keep the M30 flying. It is capable of flying in rain, rugged terrain, scorching heat, gale-force winds and freezing cold. The DJI RC Plus controller is waterproof and resistant to extreme temperatures. With the quad-antenna video transmission, 4G, battery hot-swapping, and fast charging you can power through until the work is completed.

THE SKYDIO 2

Drones are fun to fly but learning to fly effectively is not. It can be nerve-wracking, especially the thought that a lot of money that you have spent is in the air and its faith in your hands. That’s where Skydio 2 comes in. A second-generation autopilot drone is smaller, faster, and smarter. The AI-enhanced quadcopter is significantly different from other drones. The tracking and obstacle avoidance are phenomenal. The new Skydio Beacon has its core controls pared down to the essentials. Skydio 2 usually relies on visual tracking, but with a Beacon connected can fall back to GPS if it loses sight of you. It is fully autonomous cinematography with speeds of up to 57.6 Km/hr (36mph). With the revolutionary Skydio Beacon, you can extend its range up to 1.5km and drag and drop to position anywhere. It has the ability to track you even when it can’t see you and has 360 degrees obstacle avoidance. You can own one if you have some loose change of US$1349 in your pocket.

DJI FPV Drone

DJI has released its latest drone the DJI FPV. FPV stands for First Person View which means that you are controlling the aircraft seeing through the goggles as opposed to a screen on your controller. An FPV drone tends to be more maneuverable for it can go upside down and usually turn much faster and sharper and do all sorts of more interesting aerobatic maneuvers. Its design is nothing like any of its previous drones. It is an extremely capable drone enabling you to fly at top speeds and rotating flips. DJI has also created their very own flight simulator for you to try before going out and flying. DJI has also come up with a high-tech controller called the motion controller which allows you to operate the drone with one hand. It has a maximum flight time of 20 minutes. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/hr in 2 seconds. It has a top speed of 140km/hr.While a normal drone is about being a platform that carries a camera where your focus is to take video or cinematic footage. An FPV drone, on the other hand, is all about the flying aspect. It’s built for speed and agility.

The Dji Mavic Pro 2

Hi folks, belated Merry Christmas to those celebrating, happy holidays and an advance Happy New Year 2020 greetings. Its been a while and today I thought in this post, I will re-visit the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 zoom. The DJI Mavic 2 series were released with some major advancement over the previous Mavic Pro.

While both Mavic 2 versions and the original Mavic Pro looks similar; the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom are far superior. What differentiates the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom is its camera. The Mavic 2 Pro comes installed with the all-new Hasselblad L1D-20c camera while the Mavic 2 Zoom sports a 12 MP, 1/2.3-inch sensor with up to 4x zoom, including a 2x optical zoom (24–48mm) for even more creative options.

The Mavic 2 is much faster, quieter and able fly further. It is also equipped with sensors on 6 sides to enable better obstacle avoidance capabilities.

Drones as Part of Rescue Operations

I wrote an article, titled “HADR – Flood Relief Operations in Malaysia” which was subsequently published in the book: NADI Joint Working Paper: Sharing Experiences in ASEAN HADR Management, Chapter: 3, Publisher: Strategic Studies Center Thailand.
The reason for stating the above is not to blow my own trumpet, but I realised then the potential of drones in rescue operation be it flood relief, earthquakes and what more. Drones act as the eyes in the sky in situations where all form of infrastructures and utilities may be down and movements restricted. For those interested, you can access the above article on ResearchGate. To emphasis drones capabilities, attached is the video of a search and rescue operation in Northern Iceland where two Polish climbers got stranded on a mountain. and the Dalvik Search and Rescue team used a DJI Phantom 4 to locate them. Drones in Movies

Ever since clearance was given by the FAA to production companies in September of 2014, drones have become a major part in creating cinematic magic. Since helicopters costs more, drones are not only cheaper but can be used to film hard to reach angles. Some of these movies that had drone assistance are Skyfall, Jurassic World, Fate of the Furious and Game of Thrones just to mention a few. Drone technology continues to grow and therefore one will see their use in movie production to grow exponentially.

VISUO XS809H-W-HD-G

The Visuo XS809H-W-HD-G resembles the DJI Mavic and fun to fly but from what I read, do not expect high quality video nor GPS stabilisation. Priced at RM168.50 in 11 Street, the Visuo would certainly be another fun beginner drone for those of you who are looking for some sophistication in their starter drones and yet simple and affordable enough to fly. It is a large-scale quadcopter to train with and get to grips with a transmitter and have fun.
Product battery: 3,7V 900mAh
Charging time: About 10mins
R/C range: 80-100m
Camera: 2MP 720P wide angle, 0.3MP
